Sublime
19/10/2009
It is readily said that the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon is a kind of Lyonnais Louvre as it houses so many exceptional collections, which can also be discovered at late-night openings-. But for the moment, it is the great exhibition of the "Moderns" which expects a fervent and faithful public.

The 20th century collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon is very rich, thanks to generous sponsors, without whom, in the course of the centuries, there would be nothing ...
One will think of Jacqueline Delubac, the third wife of Guitry, who donated in 1998, the works of Braque, Léger, Dufy, Fautrier, Hartung, Lam, Victor Brauner, Dubuffet, Bacon and especially "The Woman on the Beach", by Picasso which dates from 1937 and which constitutes the heart of this exhibition. To André Dubois also, who has enriched the cubism section in 2005.

A lot of the masterpieces occasionally presented are underestimated by the public and have been brought out from the reserves. The museum will take advantage of this event to reorganize the areas of the permanent exhibition to which the works will return in spring 2010.
With paintings lent by foundations, artists families or private collectors, the biggest part is the property of the Lyon museum. Fauvism is represented by Dufy, Marinot and Marquet, the Russian and German avant-gardes prefigure cubism and the "Violin" by Braque. Suzanne Valadon, Utrillo, Bonnard, Chagall will also be present.
Around the figurative works until the 50s with "Le Buffet du Catalan" by Picasso in 1943, Matisse with "Jeune femme en blanc, fond rouge" (1946) and the "Paysage Blond" by Dubuffet, first painting of the artist acquired by a French museum. There are about two hundred works which thus show the great artistic movements of the 20th century. Sublime. Of course sublime.
